Whitefriars School is a Gold Accredited Rights Respecting School

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s’ rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers/adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.
The UNICEF website reports that Children in Rights Respecting Schools feel safe in school, are respected and enjoy supportive relationships with the adults who care for them. They are engaged with their local community, their education and the global agenda.
In June 2018, we achieved our Gold Award Accreditation. This showcased our commitment to ensuring that throughout the whole school, children’s rights and the RRSA ethos are embedded in daily school life.
As a school, we like to choose local charities to support. We also like to make wider links with similar charities, to ensure that Whitefriars is making a difference to children’s and people’s lives across the world.
In 2019 the RRSA Ambassadors chose to work closely with the charity Firm Foundation. The Firm Foundation is a charity that works closely with Harrow Council to support people who are homeless. We ran different fundraising events, including selling ice-lollies, which raised money to buy night time kits for the Firm Foundation to distribute.
In 2020, we raised money for the Harrow Foodbank. We ran a number of fundraising events that helped us to donate key supplies. We aim to continue make positive changes with all of the charities we support.
