Welcome to Whitefriars School where we prioritise the well-being and nutrition of our students and staff. Parents can expect nutritious meals that provide a balanced diet, fostering the growth and development of their children. We use Nourish as our catering provider. Nourish.
School meals are prepared on site and a choice is provided which caters for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.
We are a pork and beef free kitchen. All meat is Halal. Our recent inspection secured us a Food Hygiene Rating of 5.
The new menu offers a wide range of meal choices designed to cater for different tastes, preferences and dietary needs, ensuring that every student can enjoy a nutritious and appealing lunch each day. The varied menu also provides opportunities for pupils to explore new foods and develop positive eating habits.
We are proud to highlight that the school community had direct involvement in the menu planning process, with various engagement activities like taster days, school council feedback, student feedback, and assemblies planned. This way, the menu is shaped to meet the preferences and needs of the students, promoting a positive dining experience.
As part of our commitment to supporting pupil health and wellbeing, the menu places a strong emphasis on freshly prepared ingredients, with reduced levels of processed foods and added sugars. All meals are designed to meet Government School Food Standards and provide a balanced, nutritious option for pupils throughout the school day.
There is a special “meal deal” available at lunchtime every day which includes the daily hot dish and dessert as well as hot and cold alternatives to that for a set price.
We encourage your child to purchase a main meal at lunchtime from our school. Your child will be able to choose from a variety of options, including meat and vegetarian. All the meal is halal. The cost is £2.85 per day and includes a main meal and a hot dessert/accompaniment. You can click the images below to see the daily lunch menus, lunchtime meal deals and mid-morning items which can be purchased at breaktime. A selection of drinks is also available.
A suggested amount for school lunches is to add £3 credit per day via your ParentPay account. – see details below on how to pay.
Beyond these benefits, Nourish Contract Catering places a strong focus on environmental sustainability. By prioritising eco-friendly practices and sourcing local or organic ingredients, the catering service aims to minimise its ecological footprint and contribute to a greener future.
Parents and carers can also be reassured that dietary requirements, food allergies and intolerances will continue to be carefully managed. Our catering team follows robust allergen management procedures to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.
Throughout the year we like to celebrate special events or link our menu to aspects of the children’s learning. On these occasions, we will work with our catering partners to design exciting menus to accompany our theme. Theme day menus will be shared through our school newsletter. They will also be shown on the Nourish App (see below).
If your child requires a special dietary menu for medical reasons, please contact us.
A reminder that the Nourish App is now available to help parents to stay up to date with school lunches. This free app, provided by our catering company, gives you access to the school’s menus (including themed events), recipes, books, news, and enables you to contact our catering provider (Nourish) directly through the app.
